'DECADENCE' compilation mixed by BLOODY MARY
Artist: Bloody Mary
Title:Decadence
Label:Dame-Music
Release date:4 June 2010
"Classicism is the subordination of the parts to the whole; Decadence is the subordination of the whole to the parts."
Decadence is the inaugural release from Dame-Music, the new label from French Berliner Bloody Mary, offering her mission statement in the form of an indulgent mix that showcases some of the finest moments in techno and house this year so far. With last year's debut studio album on Contexterrior, Black Pearl, Bloody Mary found inspiration in the work of poet Charles Baudellaire. This time around, she's bearing in mind Oscar Wilde's curious definition of "decadence" as quoted above.
Since moving from her homeland in 2005, Mary has made quite a name for herself DJing throughout Europe, North America, Mexico and Asia, playing in top clubs like Fabric, Watergate and Rex. With her global insight, Mary breaks down borders in dance music: in her world, burlesque piano flirts with trippy atmospherics, who pinches the ass of tribal percussion, who unzips the pants of a stomping electro bassline, until a tech-house orgy fills the room with body heat. She's not just developed her technically ability to mix, but also her ear, and with the foundation of Dame, she is officially a tastemaker. Decadence offers the best picks from labels mainstays likeCadenza, Mobilee and Crosstown Rebels as well as introducing fellow newcomers like Formatik and Blitz. As always, Bloody Mary's style remains powerful yet refined, invigorating, and ultimately optimistic.
Perhaps most interesting about the compilation are the vibrant new and exclusive tracks: the Latino-tinged "Indoors" by Argenis Brito, the quirky "Lotus" from Quenum, the dark but catchy "Perpendicular" by Sierra Sam, and the sunny swagger of Mary's own"Dandies". And for all the DJs out there, these four tracks are also available separately on 12" vinyl and as digital downloads. Indulge yourself!

SED NON SATIATA - REMIXES

Bloody Mary's Black Pearl made quite a splash this summer, receiving a storm of praise from DJs and critics alike - especially impressive considering it was her debut album, as well as the first fulllength record on Contexterrior. Awarded 4 out of 5 stars from DJ Mag and Resident Advisor, and getting play from a wide cast of DJs (Tiefschwarz, Adam Beyer, Luciano and so on), Black Pearl has
set itself apart as contender for techno album of the year!
One of the standout tracks was "Sed non Satiata", marked by its latino flair and gritty spoken word from Argenis Brito (vocalist for Señor Coconut's touring band as well as a producer in his own right with releases on Cadenza). We invited three of our favorite producers to put their own touch on Mary's original, with three drastically different results: Shonky (Freak n' Chic) adds a smooth, poppy melody contrasted with disorienting hypnotic effects as he chops up Brito's voice with the "Papreek Lost Miniok" mix. London's Alex Celler (TuningSpork, Cécille) builds up from mellow to menacing, layering different dub elements and pitching down the vocals for his "Twisted Revamp".
Finally, Sierra Sam (Toys For Boys) experiences "Déj à Vu" with his remix, using the same galloping percussion as in the original he co-produced with Mary, but juxtaposing it over a new ominous, funereal fog of synthesizers.

Contexterrior is extremely thrilled to release Black Pearl by Bloody Mary - not only is it her debut full-length, but also the first
artist album to appear on the label in its seven-year history. Mary presents 11 tracks that explore techno, melodic ambience
and haphazard breakbeats, resulting in an album that stays true to the spirit of Contexterrior: dancefloor expediency balanced
with unapologetic experimentalism.
More than just a slapdash collection of tracks, Bloody Mary's album is woven together by a common theme: discovering beauty
buried beneath the darkness. This idea of contrast was inspired by the poetry of Charles Baudelaire, especially Les Fleurs du
Mal (The Flowers of Evil) from 1857. In this controversial work, he used symbols (jewels, alcohol, lesbians, vampires) to express
greater themes of erotic love, decadence and mortality.
Anyone who has seen Bloody Mary work the dancefloor knows that she is more than just a skillful DJ; she is a personality, a
force. And with Black Pearl, the case is no different. Mary's charm infuses every track, finding light within the shadows. The title
track (also the album's first single) perfectly captures the spirit of Baudelaire, with its dynamic, storming beats contrasted by
smooth, cinematic strings. What's more is that her international perspective has informed the music, with the Detroit debris of
"Duellum" and the Latin flavor of "Sed Non Satiata". With production help from her friend Sierra Sam and label boss Jay Haze,
plus contributions from Argenis Brito (Senor Coconut, Cadenza), Danton Eeprom (Freak N Chic, Tsuba) and Jona (Get
Physical, Planet E), Mary has rounded up an assortment of diverse tracks that manage to cohere into a bigger picture.
More about Bloody Mary⦠Marjorie Migliaccio began her DJ career in her homeland of France in the early part of the decade,
and by 2005 established a reputation that brought her to some of Europe's biggest clubs, such as Rex and Watergate. After
relocating to Berlin, she began her interest in production, leading to a pair of EPs on Sender Records, and becoming a true
international DJ, touring throughout North and South America. She soon met Sierra Sam of ToysForBoys Records, who
released more of her work including her first mix CD Tanz mit mir.
